EU Responsible Person: what it costs and how to appoint one
If your products are manufactured outside the EU — including handmade products you make yourself — the GPSR requires a person or company established in the EU to be named on your listings and labels as the Responsible Person (also called an Authorised Representative). A missing Responsible Person is the #1 reason EU listings get suspended on Amazon and removed on Etsy.
Straight up: GPSR Kit is nota Responsible Person service and we don’t resell one. This page exists because it’s the question every non-EU seller asks us — here is what the market actually charges.
What a Responsible Person actually does
- Acts as the EU contact point for market surveillance authorities
- Keeps your technical documentation (risk assessment, safety info) available on request — for 10 years
- Verifies the required documentation exists before products are placed on the EU market
- Cooperates on corrective measures if a safety issue is found
What it costs (checked July 2026)
The typical market price for a small seller is €200–600 per year. Established providers, as publicly listed:
| Provider | Public pricing | Note |
|---|---|---|
| eugpsr.eu | from ~€199/year | Budget option, self-serve signup |
| Cert-Rep | quote-based, typically low hundreds €/year | Listed by Etsy as a partner |
| International Associates | quote-based | Listed by Etsy as a partner |
| 24hour-AR | ~€200–600/year depending on scope | Fast onboarding |
Prices as publicly listed in July 2026 — always verify current pricing and category coverage before signing. We have no affiliation with any provider.
Red flags: paying €1,000+/year as a small seller without a specific reason (high-risk categories aside), or bundles that lock you into expensive monthly subscriptions when all you need is the representation itself.
How to appoint one — 4 steps
1.Pick a provider and check category coverage
Confirm they accept your product types (toys and children’s items are excluded or priced higher by some providers).
2.Sign the mandate and provide your documentation
They will ask what you sell and for your safety documentation — typically a risk assessment and safety information. This is exactly what your GPSR Kit contains.
3.Get their contact block
Name, postal address, email — this is what goes on listings and labels.
4.Add it everywhere and regenerate your documents
Etsy shop-wide Product safety setting, Amazon Compliance fields, your labels. If you use GPSR Kit, re-enter the RP details and regenerate — every document updates.
Before you sign anything: providers will ask for your safety documentation. The GPSR Kit generates it for your specific product — the multilingual safety sheet, the risk assessment to sign, the checklist and the label template — for €29, one time.

Do I need an EU Responsible Person if I make my products myself?
If you make them outside the EU and sell to EU buyers: yes. You are the manufacturer, and a manufacturer established outside the EU needs an EU-based Responsible Person named on listings and labels. If you are based in the EU, you can act as the responsible economic operator yourself.
Can my friend or family member in the EU be my Responsible Person?
Legally, any person or company established in the EU can take the role — but they take on real obligations (keeping documentation available for 10 years, answering market surveillance authorities, cooperating on corrective measures). Most casual contacts refuse once they understand the liability, which is why paid services exist.
Is one Responsible Person enough for all my products and all marketplaces?
Generally yes — one RP agreement typically covers your product range and works across Etsy, Amazon, eBay and your own store. Check the provider covers your product categories: some exclude higher-risk items like toys or electronics, or price them differently.
Does having a Responsible Person make me GPSR-compliant?
No. The RP is one requirement among several: you still need the listing information, multilingual safety warnings, a risk assessment in your technical file and a compliant label. The RP is a contact point, not a compliance certificate.
GPSR Kit helps you prepare product-safety compliance documents. It is not legal advice and does not guarantee compliance or marketplace approval. Provider information is given for orientation only — verify terms directly with each provider.
